What is Applied Kinesiology?
History of Applied Kinesiology (AK)
AK was developed in 1964 by Dr. George Goodheart.
Dr. Goodheart resolved a long term shoulder problem by correcting a weak muscle. This led him to further investigate the relationship of muscle function to other health problems.
What is AK?
The use of manual muscle testing to evaluate your bodies health through the function of the nerves, muscles and bones
How do we test the muscle?
The actual muscle test is both an art and a science. It can take many 100’s of hours of training and practice to become an accurate muscle tester. The muscle test is like a stethoscope. It is only an effective tool if the person using it knows what to listen for and how to interpret the findings. A 2-3 sec test is applied by the practitioner while the patient maintains a specific position.
We are not testing the overall strength of the muscle; we are testing weather the muscle is on or off. For example, we are not testing weather the light bulb is 50 watt or 100 watt, we are testing weather the switch is on or off.
There are two primary reasons why your muscle could be weak:
- The muscle is damaged and your body is turning off the signal protect it
- Other factors are affecting the muscles ability to function in a normal way
Five Factors
- Blood flow
- Lymph flow
- Cerebral Spinal Fluid flow
- Spinal Alignment
- Acupuncture Meridian
When you come into my clinic, how will I use the system of applied kinesiology to help you. You already learned how Dr. Goodheart resolved a chronic shoulder problem by fixing a weak muscle.
Suppose you have chronic daily neck pain and stiffness. You have had massage therapy, physical therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic adjustments with only temporary relief. The first thing we do is get the story from you about this problem up until now. We start with standard exams and then combine those results with our Applied Kinesiology results.
Basic Ideas:
- Muscles turn on
- Muscles turn off
- Muscles Move Bones
- Muscles Stabilize Bones
- Muscles only do what the nerves tell them to do.
What Can AK Do For You?
Once we find a weak muscle, we then use our system of AK to find the cause of the weakness. We can also use muscle testing to check for food sensitivities, meridian imbalances, right and left brain switching, what the best supplements for you are, how memories and thoughts affect you, and more!
Really, almost anything is possible with Applied Kinesiology. Most of my patients only need 1 or 2 supplements at a time and only a couple times a day because we asked the body.
